Dog and Kennel Licensing

Licensing your dog with us ensures not only compliance with local regulations but also contributes to the well-being of all animals in our care.

Please view the notices below for dog licenses and kennel licenses. You MUST come to the shelter to pay for your licenses. You can find the applications for each below. You may fill out the application online, or print it out and bring it with you when you come to the shelter to pay.

Dog Licenses

According to County Ordinance 2010-0913: “Owners of a dog (6) months of age or over and residents of Kentucky shall obtain a license for each individual dog owned for the required fee per metal tag. Proof of a valid Rabies vaccination shall be required to obtain a county license.”

Dog tag licenses are to be obtained and renewed annually, on or before July 1 of each year and are available from the Animal Control Officer.

License Fees:

Lifetime License: $25 (To obtain a lifetime license, pets must be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on Rabies vaccinations.
Senior Lifetime License: $10 (Senior dog identified as 8 years or older)
3 Year License (Spayed/Neutered): $20
1 Year License (Spayed/Neutered): $5
1 Year License (Unaltered): $15

Owners with spayed or neutered dogs must show proof of such alteration in order to receive the discount.

Licenses will be sold at the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter at 498 Glen Nash Ln. Hardinsburg, KY. on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Saturday 11am to 1pm.

I/We certify that I/we understand and will comply with all provisions of Animal Care and Control, governing the type of license for which I/we are applying, that I/we are presently the legally present on the above described property and that the information provider her and in all the attachments and supporting material is true and correct to the best of my/our knowledge and belief. If you are to be found that you have been charged and falsify this application saying that you have not been charged or had animal control out to your property that your Kennel License will be revoked and you will not be bale to receive a Kennel License in Breckinridge County again. Failure to permit an ACO to inspect kennels regulated by this Ordinance during reasonable hours shall be grounds for Kennel License revocation. License revocation shall be in writing and shall state the grounds therefore. Any person whos Kennel License is revoked may appeal such revocation to Breckinridge County Fiscal Court within 30 days following the date of revocation. Said appeal shall be in writing and shall state the grounds therefore, and shall be signed by the person appealing and signed by the person bringing in the appeal. If requested by the appellant, a hearing shall be held on the issues raised by the appeal. The hearing shall be held before the Breckinridge County Fiscal Court.
