• Proof that you’re at least 18 years of age
• Fill out adoption application
• A picture ID with your current address (If this isn’t available, a picture ID and a current utility bill will suffice)
• Meet with animal and shelter staff to see if the pet is the right fit

The Breckinridge County Animal Shelter does not place a hold on specific pets. Adoptions for qualified applicants are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yes, meet and greets can be scheduled with your current pet; however, you must have an approved adoption application. You can fill out the application here.

• You must be 18 or older to volunteer. (Under the age of 18 must have a guardian present to volunteer.)
• Volunteers must fill out application and go through volunteer orientation
• Must treat animals in our care with compassion, kindness, and concern for their welfare.
• Must be able to work independently and meet the essential volunteer requirements.
• Must represent yourself and The Breckinridge County Animal Shelter in a professional manner and treat clients, staff, and other volunteers with respect.
